There may not be words to adequately describe how blessed my life has been, in spite of myself. I hope these memoirs in some way reflect God's unsurpassed love and faithfulness.

Naturally.
Someone please tell me why my first instinct with my son when he's aggressive is to spank him... I know it sounds terrible. He hits, so you hit him to teach him a lesson. Perfect logic. I think I need a time-out...
i know we struggle with that too. just tonight we asked hannah why she keeps disobeying us in this one area. she is a very good kid, but not perfect. like who is? and i asked david just tonight are we expecting too much from her? is she going to grow up thinking that we wanted her to be perfect. that is why we try not to spank all the time, but then two minutes later she is back doing the same exact thing we just asked her not to do.
let me know when you come up with something. we maybe older parents, but we certainly don't have the corner marketed on parenting.
Um, yeah, parenting is such a..a...what's the word...exhausting, mind blowing, rewarding, frustrating, joyous, guiltridden, doubt inducing, pride swelling, emotional roller coaster. It seems like daily I question something I have done - too nice? Too hard? Too much or not enough of everything - snacks, hugs, spankins, late bedtimes, play time, story time...etc. And I have one child. Geez.
Here's what I have to think - my mom and dad raised me and my 7 brothers and sisters and surely, Surely, they made mistakes and spanked us too much, or let us get away with too much, or whatever , but at the end of the day, I love them, respect them, and am not a complete screw up, right? So surely with a God's grace, our kids'll be okay.
You're fine. Because if you're not fine, my mothering is a disaster!
I struggled with spanking also....That was always my first response.....The word says spare the rod spoil the child..... so don't ever feel guilty about spanking. sometimes it is necessary....I don't have the market cornered on parenting, but I think the key is to be consistent.....and always tell them how much you love them after the spanking.....As they get older they won't need as many spankings....There will be other ways you will have to disipline....
....yeah like taking away their favorite things. for each child its different. my daughter's worst punishment is to take away her social life. the woe of being 14 and not able to talk on the phone or have friends over. such a tragedy, but it does straighten her out for a while.
